Meet our, "aged to perfection" senior - Diego. Now, do not let the word senior fool you this man may have some miles on his engine, but it definitely still runs like a fine tuned well oiled machine. At the age of 8 ish you can skip past all the puppy chewing crap and get right to the enjoyment of a partnership that is fun, but not all consuming of your attention!

 

Life with Diego can be describe like any good Romcon! A distinguished gentleman that has been looking for love in all the wrong places. He is sure to swoon over the next committed heartthrob he finds. Diego loves to go for walks, trot alongside a meandering bike ride, check out the sights on the next car adventure, and then is content to curl up in his favorite chair. If you like to read a good book Diego could help with those tear jerker sappy endings! Romance not your thing? Diego could easily switch to murder mystery and suspense type novels too. This dude is really just that easy to sit and relax with. 

 

Diego loves to show off his tricks: sit, down, sit-pretty, high-five and shake (with both paws!). He lies nicely to wait for his food at dinner time and waits patiently for his release before diving into his food. With this boy already knowing so much all the hard training has been completed for you. What's left to do except enjoy his company and build a new friendship.

After doing some testing at our vet, we have learned that Diego has an enlarged prostate. While unusual in dogs that have been neutered their whole life, tests came back negative for cancer, but this will require a daily oral medication (Finasteride 5mg - $23 for 3 month supply) and a good quality urinary food for his lifetime to keep him comfortable.

 

Due to his prostrate, Diego is not a crate enthusiast. He can have some crate accidents after four/five hours or so of being confined. We would love to find a family that goes home during lunch time or works from home to help Diego always be successful in his routine. However; on the flip side, Diego has no problem snoozing an entire night away or binge watching Netflix for 8-10 hours with zero accidents when with his people! House trained perfectly. 

 

While out and about on daily walks, car rides, hikes, and biking adventures he pays very little attention to any other canines provided they respect his spatial perimeter. Prior to being adopted the first time around Diego lived with felines. He recently went to visit some new feline friends and was not very interested in them. However, much like canines he does not want them in his space either. If Diego had his pick, he would prefer to be the king of his retirement village and not share his golden years with other animals!

He loves being around people of all ages, but young children can make him nervous, so we do recommend he go to either an adult home or a home with children over 12 that are respectful of boundaries. Wherever he goes, Diego will need a home that is willing to give him time to settle in. Relationships take some time and trust and like any good Romcom these things can't be rushed.
