Callie is a stunning terrier mix who has been in our program for over a year, and watching her transform has been something truly special. When she first arrived, what she needed most was stability, consistency, and a safe place to land. Given time, structure, and love, she has absolutely blossomed.

Callie is beautifully house-trained and very comfortable in her kennel. Like many smart, sensitive dogs, she can experience some kennel anxiety, which has been well managed with daily fluoxetine. As she continues to settle and build confidence, we are hopeful she may not always need that support. Outside of that, she has been a healthy girl. She rides well in the car (always safely tethered) and handles bath time like a total pro, she’ll hop right in and let you wash her without fuss.

In the home, Callie is affectionate, loyal, and deeply bonded to her people. She loves her stuffed toys (especially her beloved turtle), treat-filled wobblers, and puzzle games that challenge her clever mind. She knows look, sit, stay, come, leave it, and lay down, and she’s currently working on roll over. She thrives when her brain is engaged and when her humans provide clear expectations. Callie is very intelligent, and like many smart terrier-type girls, she will absolutely rise to the level of leadership given to her. Consistency and confident handling bring out her very best.

She has done wonderfully with the cats in her foster home from the very beginning and truly respects them. With dogs, her journey has been slower and more thoughtful. She now lives seamlessly with a male dog in the home and enjoys being part of the pack, but introductions were done carefully and at her pace. She does best with slow, structured integrations and clear boundaries. On leash, Callie is aware of other animals in closer quarters and has worked to solidify her "leave it" command. She settles nicely on walks with leadership but will need someone mindful of space and distractions.

Callie is a terrier through and through, loyal, driven, smart, and devoted. She thrives with routine, predictability, daily mental and physical exercise, and humans who understand the importance of structure. She loves playtime, enjoys being busy, and once she bonds, she is a world-class cuddler who just wants to feel safe beside her people.

​

Her ideal home would be one with a steady routine, patient leadership, and humans who are around a fair amount of the time. She could live with another well-matched, confident male dog after proper introductions, and she would be perfectly happy soaking up the spotlight as a solo companion as well. A quieter neighborhood setting where she has space would suit her best.

​

Callie has spent a year preparing for the right forever family. She doesn’t need perfection, she needs commitment, understanding, and someone willing to continue guiding her. In return, she offers loyalty, intelligence, affection, and a steady companionship that only a dog who has truly bloomed can give.
