about Calypso
Legends tell of Calypso as a powerful sea spirit, mysterious, captivating, and impossible to rush. Our Calypso may not command the oceans, but she certainly lives by the same rules.

When Calypso first arrived at SEPR from Kansas alongside her Pirates of the Caribbean shipmates, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Syrena, she wasn't interested in being the center of attention. While others might rush headfirst into new adventures, Calypso preferred to quietly observe from a distance, carefully deciding who and what deserved her trust.

Over the past several months, this beautiful girl has been slowly emerging from her shell and showing us the dog she was always meant to be.

Calypso is a gentle, low-energy companion who thrives in a calm environment where she can move at her own pace. She isn't demanding, dramatic, or constantly seeking attention. Instead, she enjoys simply being near her people, quietly observing the world and occasionally checking in to make sure everything is exactly as it should be.

While she may appear reserved at first, those lucky enough to earn her trust are rewarded with adorable playful moments that her foster family lovingly refers to as her "tippy tappies." When Calypso feels happy and comfortable, she'll bounce around with excitement, play her favorite game of "boop," and show off a silly side that many people would never expect from such a thoughtful girl.

One of Calypso's greatest strengths is her ability to settle. She is wonderfully behaved in the home, fully house-trained, quiet in her crate, and respectful of household routines. Her crate has become one of her favorite safe spaces, and she can comfortably relax there while her family is away. She is not destructive, does not seek trouble, and generally prefers peaceful observation over chaos.

Calypso is also proving that confidence can grow with time. New experiences that once felt overwhelming are becoming easier, and she's begun exploring enrichment activities, enjoying peanut butter-filled Kongs, lick mats, and spending more time engaging with the world around her. She's even started showing more interest in interacting with other dogs after initially preferring to keep to herself.

Like many dogs who have experienced significant life changes, Calypso will need a family willing to continue helping her build confidence. She isn't looking for a busy social calendar, crowded events, or a household full of constant activity. Instead, she would thrive with patient adopters who understand that trust is earned, not demanded.

If you're searching for a dog who will instantly become everyone's best friend, Calypso may not be your perfect match.

But if you're looking for a loyal companion who quietly chooses her people, celebrates life's little moments, and reminds you that some of the most meaningful relationships take time to build, Calypso may just be the treasure you've been searching for.

After all, the best pirate stories aren't about the fastest adventures, they're about the journeys worth waiting for.
