about churro
Churro has come an incredibly long way since arriving in SEPR’s care. Originally trapped in Georgia after living much of her life in hiding, she arrived in South Dakota as a very shy and unsure girl. She’s what rescuers call a “10-mile dog,” meaning if she ever slipped loose, she wouldn’t look back for a very long time. Her past taught her survival and caution, but her future is filled with love, safety, and learning what it means to be someone’s cherished companion.

This tiny survivor also came with a laundry list of medical challenges, including heartworms, whipworms, mycoplasma, and babesia. She is truly lucky to be alive, and every day her growing trust shows she wants nothing more than to learn how to be a beloved family member. Despite everything, Churro’s heart is as mighty as a lion’s, and her gentle spirit shines brighter each day.

As she’s settled into her foster home, Churro’s sweet personality has begun to blossom. She is a goofy, wiggly-butt girl who loves wearing outfits, receiving “butt scritches,” taking naps, hanging out with her foster mom, and enjoying her chew bones and toys. She gets along wonderfully with the medium-sized resident dog and absolutely adores the cats, they are truly her best friends.

Churro walks well on leash and is very well-mannered in the house and in her crate. She keeps a tidy space and does wonderfully with routine potty breaks. New people and unfamiliar surroundings can still make her nervous, so she prefers quiet environments, consistency, and predictable routines. She feels safest when items stay in the same place and when she can relax in familiar rooms, her fenced yard, or her comfy crate.

Right now, Churro has a sweet “couch-potato” energy level, loving the peace and comfort of a calm home. As she continues to gain confidence, she hopes to enjoy more car rides, explore new toys, and continue learning that the world can be a safe and kind place.

Churro’s ideal home would be a patient, gentle household, preferably a quieter one, with a privacy-fenced yard to help her feel secure. Her family will need to move slowly at her pace, celebrating each milestone as she blossoms from a once-feral survivor into the cherished family member she’s always deserved to be.
