about DEWY
Just like the morning dew he's named after, Dewy is a reminder that every day can be a fresh start. Rescued from a tough life in Hazlehurst, Georgia, Dewy arrived with seven other dogs, overwhelmed by the shelter environment and unsure of the world beyond confinement. But this sweet boy has been working hard to discover the joys of being a beloved pet—and he’s making incredible progress every day.
Since arriving in foster care, Dewy has undergone two dental surgeries to remove painful broken teeth and had three neck lumps removed. After just over a month since arriving he is now fully healed and able to start experiencing more of what his new world has to offer.
Dewy is still learning to trust people—his past left him a little wary of new faces—but he’s incredibly smart and so eager to please with his foster family that we just know he'll learn to trust with time. He’s slowly discovering that not all humans are scary (loves his foster family) and that this new life is filled with good things: treats, walks, bones, playtime, and the love of a patient family. He’s already mastered “sit,” “lay down,” “wait,” and “look,” and he’s working on “drop it” (especially when a well-loved toy is involved), "leave it" and “shake” (almost there!).
This handsome boy loves zoomies in the backyard, fetch sessions (though he sometimes prefers to chew on the toy instead of bringing it back), and romping around with SEPR alum Denali. His new agility course is a huge hit—Dewy caught on in no time and beams with pride after every run. We suspect this summer will bring on more fun activities for him to try out!
Crate time is another win—just show him a peanut butter-filled bone, and he’ll trot right in, tail wagging. He’s quiet most of the time, with the occasional short lived whine. Dewy has made huge strides with things that once scared him, like car rides (he now jumps in and out all by himself!) and indoor stairs.
While bath time isn’t his favorite, he tolerates it like a champ. He’s caught onto his daily routine, listens attentively, and thrives in a structured, supportive environment.
Dewy is still learning, but his transformation has already been remarkable. With continued love, guidance and training he’s surely going to blossom into a loyal, loving companion he was always meant to be.
Are you ready to help Dewy write the next chapter of his story? A fresh start awaits—for both of you.
