about DEWY
Just like the morning dew he's named after, Dewy is a reminder that every day can be a fresh start. Rescued from a tough life in Hazlehurst, Georgia, Dewy arrived with seven other dogs, overwhelmed by the shelter environment and unsure of the world beyond confinement. But this sweet boy has been working hard to discover the joys of being a beloved pet, and he’s making incredible progress every day.
Since arriving in foster care, Dewy has undergone two dental surgeries to remove painful broken teeth. He also had three neck lumps removed, as well as a growth removed from his tail. He was a real trooper with all the bandages and ointment and has since healed nicely with only a couple of small scars left behind.
Dew Stew is incredibly smart and so eager to please with his foster family. He has learned that this new life is pretty sweet and is filled with all sorts of good things like: treats, walks, bones, playtime, and the love of a patient family. He’s already mastered “sit,” “lay down,” “wait,” and “look,” and he’s working on “drop it” (especially when a well-loved toy is involved), "leave it" and “shake” (almost there!).
Dewy's past left him a little wary of new faces but once he trusts you, you are his whole world. Dewy would thrive and do best in a home based on routine, structure, knowledge and patience. His ideal home would be one that's calm and quiet, with maybe a confident, easy going female doggo to play with. Dewy would also prefer a home without kids and kitty cats. He promises to give you all the love and excitement to make up for it though.
This handsome boy loves zoomies in the backyard (he would LOVE a fenced in yard), fetch sessions (though he sometimes prefers to chew on the toy instead of bringing it back), and romping around with SEPR alum Denali. His new agility course is a huge hit, Dewy caught on in no time and beams with pride after every run. He loves to be outside and also loves playing in his baby pool. Dewy enjoys going on walks with his doggie friend Denali. He also rides nicely in the car (even though it was a very scary thing when he first came in). A daily activity would fit Dewy nicely. Dewy has a slow side too, often occupying himself with a good chew or cuddled up on the couch next to his humans.
Dewy has completed SEPR's Train-a-bull 6 week class with his foster dad. Class was so beneficial in his growth and definitely helped him develop some more confidence and trust. He gives the training treats 5 stars. Along with training class, he has been going on weekly outings with a special volunteer. Moving at his pace, he has been able to experience more things, gain more confidence and just be more comfortable in this busy crazy world. When you come from a rural setting with nothing going on, the city life can be a bit overwhelming. With this help, Dewy continues to make great strides.
Dewy does well with crate time. Just show him a peanut butter-filled bone, and he’ll trot right in, tail wagging. He’s quiet most of the time, with only the occasional soft whine. He loves his crate bed, blankets and bones to make it just right for him. Bath time isn’t his favorite, but he tolerates it like a champ. He also does well with nail trims, ya know, just as long as a dish of peanut butter is involved.
Dewy is so smart and sweet with just a little side of goofy puppy like personality. He listens attentively, and really does thrive in a structured, supportive environment. While he might still be learning, his transformation has already been remarkable. With continued love, guidance and training he’s surely going to be a loyal, loving companion that he was always meant to be.
Are you ready to help Dewy write the next chapter of his story? A fresh start awaits—for both of you.
