Dharma in many religions and languages can mean: virtue, righteousness, and the goal to gain liberation and salvation. This little Georgia transplant has shown nothing but perseverance on her journey to her liberation and salvation! Dharma may have had a hard start in life but she holds absolutely no grudges against humans, she is sweet, loving, and happy and practically vibrates with joy at times!
When arriving, it seemed that Dharma had never been inside a family home before. Everything was new and scary and she knew zero commands. Luckily our Dharma is a smart cookie! It took her no time at all to learn the basics like kennel training and house breaking. Dharma has also learned look, sit, sit and look, sit and wait for food and at the door. She's also learned down, come here and drop it. Dharma is also great on a tie down whether it's to chew on a bone or take a nap.
Dharma loves playing with her stuffed toys and going on leisurely walks! With much practice she has learned to pace herself with her handler and now is a wonderful walking buddy! It only takes about a 15 minute walk to wear her out. She can also do well on longer walks, Dharma regularly participates in group pack walks and is never phased by the other canines.
Dharma is the definition of a love bug! Her favorite thing is to cuddle on the couch. She loves all people, especially kids! She's quick to roll over for a belly rub (one of her fave things) and cuddles as close as you allow.
A couple of months into her life as a SEPR dog Dharma encountered yet another time to show her perseverance! In January, Dharma suffered some pretty serious lower leg edema as well as impaired movements ( foster mom says she moved like an old lady) ... Dr Tom has diagnosed Dharma with canine vasculitis - a daily dose of cyclosporine which is an auto-immune drug has done the trick! This means the vasculitis diagnosis was correct and Dharma will be on a once a day pill for life. She takes her pill like a champion. At no point has Dharma’s medical condition affected her personality or quality of life.
Dharma is hoping to find a forever family to love and care for her quirks and all. Someone she can shower with love and Dharma snuggles! This doll will truly devote her entire heart and soul to them as she exudes the breed standard for giving human affection.
** Dharma has passed her Canine Good Citizen test with her foster mom! While this title is awarded to a handler and dog team, (meaning Dharma will need to take the CGC test again with her forever family) it helps show what a great dog Dharma is! **
