about DRAKE
Sir Drake — or “Guy Drake,” as his foster family has affectionately started calling him, may have a distinguished name, but this guy isn’t asking for the royal treatment. Give him a comfortable bed, good food, some people to hang out with and a peaceful place to land, and he is perfectly content.

Drake has been an absolute dream in his foster home. He is extremely easygoing, gentle and about as laid-back as they come. Not much gets this guy worked up. Even when his people try to get him excited, Drake generally responds by remaining his same calm, collected self. He has started showing some interest in toys, although so far he seems to think they’re much more worthwhile when his foster family’s daughter, Amara, is playing with him.

He has also proven to be a genuinely social guy. Drake has done well with adults, children, other dogs and cats. He enjoys being part of the household without needing to be the center of attention and has been an easy dog to live with from the beginning.

His house manners are equally impressive. Drake already knows basic commands, is completely potty trained and has had zero accidents in his foster home. He understands that furniture is by invitation only and is happy to follow the rules of the house. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom with his people.

During the day, Drake is quiet and relaxed in his kennel. Every once in a while, he decides he has better plans when it’s time to kennel up, but fortunately Sir Drake has a weakness that makes negotiations pretty simple: food. Show him a treat and suddenly the kennel sounds like an excellent idea. In fact, meals may be one of Drake’s favorite parts of the day. He is extremely food motivated, gets adorably drooly when dinner is coming and has absolutely no problem taking his medications mixed right into his food.

Drake is also an excellent passenger in the car. He settles right down and rides quietly, making road trips with him easy. He did well walking on leash during his first few days in foster care, although lately he has been perfectly happy spending his time relaxing around the house and enjoying the yard.

Like many rescue dogs, Drake does come with some ongoing medical needs. He has allergies that are currently managed with a dehydrated Honest Kitchen diet, daily Apoquel and baths every other week. Bath time certainly isn’t his favorite activity, but in typical Drake fashion, he calmly tolerates the indignity and gets through it. He has also begun treatment for heartworm disease and handled the beginning of his treatment beautifully without any noticeable side effects.

Even thunderstorms and lightning don’t seem to rattle him. Drake simply takes life as it comes.
After everything this guy has been through, there is something especially wonderful about watching him settle into a home and realize that life can be pretty simple. He doesn’t need constant entertainment or excitement. He seems happiest just being included, having a comfortable place to rest and knowing his people are nearby.

Sir Drake is gentle, friendly, wonderfully easy to live with and ready for the next chapter of his life.
And while we can’t promise he won’t drool while waiting for dinner, we’re pretty confident his future family will forgive him.
More to come...
