Not every pirate dreams of life on the open seas. Some are simply searching for a safe harbor to call home.

Elizabeth Swann arrived as part of Sioux Empire Pit Rescue's Pirates crew alongside Will Turner, Calypso, and Syrena. Before her rescue, she was found as a stray, painfully thin and struggling to survive on her own. Shelter life proved difficult for her. The constant noise, chaos, and stress were overwhelming for a dog who prefers to observe, think, and process the world around her.

Today, Elizabeth is thriving in foster care and revealing exactly who she is: an incredibly intelligent, athletic, and affectionate girl with a personality as big as the ocean she was named after.

​

The first thing you'll notice about Elizabeth is that she's always thinking. She studies everything around her, watches people closely, and is constantly trying to solve the next puzzle. This clever girl can open doors with ease, learns routines quickly, and already knows commands including sit, stay, down, shake, and other paw. She loves puzzle toys, although she has yet to find one challenging enough to keep up with her brilliant mind.

Elizabeth is also incredibly athletic and agile. She enjoys multiple walks each day, loves exploring the world around her, and would thrive in an active home that understands the importance of both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Whether she's working on training, investigating the backyard, or carrying around a favorite chew toy, Elizabeth is happiest when she has a job to do.

While she may be a thinker, she's also a softie. Elizabeth adores her foster mom and dad and happily accepts pets, cuddles, kisses, and quality time with her people. She enjoys car rides, settles nicely in her kennel, and has done very well with house training. In the evenings, you'll often find her watching television from her favorite spot. In fact, she's quite opinionated about her programming and will let her family know if her bedroom TV unexpectedly turns off. Her current favorite shows seem to involve car repair videos.

Like many terriers, Elizabeth comes with a healthy dose of drive and determination. Counter surfing is currently her favorite competitive sport, birds are her sworn enemies, and toys rarely survive longer than a few minutes in her possession. She is highly food motivated and eager to learn, making continued training both enjoyable and rewarding.

Elizabeth has done well walking with her laid-back male foster sibling and would likely enjoy a home that understands proper introductions, structure, and management. While she loves her family deeply, she does not feel the need to become best friends with every stranger she meets, and that's perfectly okay. Elizabeth appreciates being allowed to build trust at her own pace.

​

What Elizabeth needs most is a confident, experienced home that understands terrier drive and is committed to continuing the training, structure, and enrichment that have helped her flourish. She is not looking for someone to simply admire her beauty, although she certainly has plenty of that. She's looking for someone who will challenge her mind, channel her energy, celebrate her intelligence, and continue helping her become the incredible breed ambassador we know she can be.

Elizabeth Swann survived life as a stray, weathered the storm of shelter life, and is now ready to drop anchor in a forever home of her own.
