about holstein

Holstein lives up to his name as he has the appetite of a heifer and a heart the size of a bull. This dude is the poster child for the saying "a dog is a man's best friend!" Holstein tends to have an unspoken bond when it comes to men who show him love and affection. You can feel him melt and calm down immediately when a man walks into the room.

Holstein spent his first 6 months in foster care displaying some odd tummy issues, and after lots of searching he underwent exploratory surgery. The doc discovered a few plastic condiment containers in his gut! Due to a previous life of fending for his own food, who knows how long these had been sitting in his stomach.

If this wasn’t enough of a detour in Holstein’s resume, he almost died last year after contracting Lepto from contaminated water out doors. A very common thing in areas with high wild life. A true trooper and warrior Holstein did sustain some immeasurable damage to his kidneys and will need to be on renal food for life (we just order it through Chewy). His kidney values have continued to improve and aside from his daily kibble nothing further medically is needed to be done. Talk about a dog with nine lives! We think he definitely deserves to find his perfect forever home.

Holstein can be a happy spunky puppy ready to show off his smarts. On the list of commands he's mastered: drop, sit, look, stay, being a pro at sitting before crossing through any entryway, and has even figured out switch! On the verge of commands to master include "to the door" "settle" and "off," and still working on down. Walks with Holstein are fabulous, when he has his head up he will gracefully prance around the neighborhood like a blue ribbon bull! The perfect show quality gentleman to act as a breed ambassador. He might love his crate a little too much, he will fly up the steps with just the flick of your hand in the direction of his room. Then he sits incredibly quiet in his crate, happily chewing a bone or frozen black kong with no fuss! Holstein also has never had an accident in the house so he is housebroken!

On the flip side due to Holstein previous years of neglect he can be rather particular about the humans he trust and the amount of human affection and touching he can appreciate at one time. Ensuring, Holstein is always set up for positive situations and not pushed into affection, handling, or encounters is a must for a new family. His new life of health and freedom can make him uneasy for sharing all his "important things" - like his crate, food, and toys. For this reason Holstein will need a home without small children and an owner willing to go slow and let him unpack and trust at his speed vs a quicker agenda.

One of his favorite things, he loves snuggling on the couch watching a movie or helping you with paper work. Also, this kid is obsessed with being outside! He loves the feel of grass, snow, or mud between his toes. If he can convince you to let him back outside just one more time he's the happiest of puppies! I'm saving the best for last... when Holstein gets a fuzzy plush toy, boy does the puppy come out in him!! He bucks his legs, tosses the toys up in the air just to catch it mid-air with his big flappy jowls! Holstein is an all-around spunky happy puppy!

If Holstein sounds like the perfect chunk of dog you just can't live without, we suggest you get moooving and adopt him!
