about INDIANA BONES
This joyful goofball does everything with zest and, thanks to his quirky back legs, moves with the swagger of a tipsy Captain Jack Sparrow. Indy has no idea he walks a bit differently; his spirit shines brighter than any challenge he has faced. He is emotionally intelligent, observant, and deeply loyal to his people.

Before arriving at Sioux Empire Pit Rescue, Indy was found in Sioux City in rough shape, likely struck by a vehicle. When he first entered the shelter, he couldn’t walk. Today, seeing him bounce, wiggle, and zoom is nothing short of a miracle. While he will likely always have some quirks in his back legs, he doesn’t let them hold him back. With routine stretches and exercise, he continues to improve every day.

Indy is a sharp, eager learner who has already mastered commands like sit, stay, come, heel, and touch. His potty training and manners are excellent, and he will go to the door to let you know when he needs to go out. While he isn’t a huge fan of his crate, he settles in well once he understands the routine. He currently takes gabapentin for mobility and fluoxetine to help manage stress. He thrives on consistency and appreciates a steady routine to help him feel confident.

We are also working with Indy on managing anxiety and reactivity. He is making great progress, and his ideal home will be one committed to maintaining his training and continuing to build his confidence.
Indiana is the perfect mix of playful energy and gentle snuggles. He loves chasing a flirt pole and playing with toys, but he is just as happy melting into a nap or enjoying a good chew session. He rides beautifully in the car, greets people politely, and absolutely adores humans of all sizes, especially children. He currently lives with a 4- and 6-year-old and cherishes their snuggles. As with any dog, proper adult supervision is always recommended to ensure safe and respectful interactions.

He gets along wonderfully with the dogs in his foster home, though he can be reactive to unfamiliar dogs at close proximity. Because he finds cats a bit too exciting, a feline-free home is best.

Indiana’s ideal family is one that wants a dog who is equal parts steady companion and silly sidekick. He thrives on companionship and feeling included in the action. If you are ready for a loyal friend whose resilience is contagious and whose heart is unmatched, Indiana Bones is ready to swagger straight into your home.
