about JAKE
Jake is a senior gentleman with a big heart, a thoughtful soul, and a lifetime of love behind him — even if his recent chapter didn’t turn out the way it should have. Jake’s world changed when his beloved owner passed away. After also losing his canine companion, he found himself placed in a boarding facility, where he was ultimately abandoned by a family member.

Through no fault of his own, this loyal boy was left waiting, confused, and grieving a life he once knew.
When Jake arrived in foster care just before the holidays, it was immediately clear that he had once been a very loved, well-cared-for house dog. He is fully housetrained, respectful in the home, and has shown zero interest in chewing household items. He knows how to live indoors, how to settle, and how to be a companion, not because he was taught recently, but because this was once his normal.

Jake enjoys toys, especially ones he can really sink his teeth into, and he has a playful side that still shines through. He loves fetch with a ball and is learning to refine his “drop” skills, though larger toys tend to turn into chew projects rather than return items. He can become excited during play, especially tug-style games, and does best with clear boundaries and a human who listens when he communicates. Jake is honest with his feelings, and we truly appreciate that about him.

On walks, Jake uses a gentle leader and has adapted to it beautifully. He’s strong and enthusiastic at first, then settles into a steady rhythm as the walk goes on. He’s not a marathon guy anymore, but he enjoys getting out, sniffing the world, and taking it all in. His leash manners are less about starting from scratch and more about fine-tuning what he already knows.

Jake has also handled outings like a champ, calmly greeting strangers at local stores and lighting up with joy when visiting familiar faces from his past. He enjoys meeting people, settles well in new environments, and continues to show just how adaptable he truly is.

In the home, Jake is learning new expectations, like staying off the couch (which he was clearly allowed on in his former life) and practicing polite attention instead of pawing or jumping. He’s smart, food-motivated, and eager to engage, especially when it comes to learning routines that earn him praise and connection.
Jake may be a senior, but he still has plenty of life, love, and personality left to give. What he needs now is a home that understands him, one that values communication, provides structure, and appreciates the depth that comes with an older dog who has loved deeply before.

Jake lost his family, his companion, and the life he knew, but he hasn’t lost his ability to trust, connect, or hope. For the right person, Jake won’t just be a dog… he’ll be a deeply loyal friend who’s been waiting for his second chance
