Better than “Josie and the Pussycats”… meet SEPR’s Josie!!

Josie first landed in a bustling local shelter where the echoes of barking filled the air like a chaotic symphony. For a social, people-loving girl who thrives on connection, that environment was overwhelming. Her excitement and larger-than-life personality were misunderstood, and she found herself placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, our volunteers saw past the noise and knew this blonde beauty deserved her encore.

Like a power ballad from a forgotten era, Josie’s excitement is palpable. Her tail wags like it’s keeping tempo to her own personal soundtrack, earning her the nickname “Wiggles.” She is crate trained and will happily head right in for a stuffed Kong and treats. When she’s not soaking up attention, she entertains herself with toys, balls, and bones, her backstage props for life.

Josie is what we lovingly call a “bowling ball on the playground.” She is excitable, joyful, and ready to roll full speed into whatever adventure comes next. Because of her enthusiasm for life, she needs a confident handler on walks, especially since other dogs and even people can rev her engine pretty quickly. She absolutely loves going on walks and exploring the world, but continued guidance and structure help her channel that energy appropriately.

Josie has already completed a round of SEPR’s Train-A-Bull class and knows “look,” “sit,” “down,” and “stay.” She is currently continuing her training work with Big Paws Foundation, where she is excelling at learning how to wrangle in her excitement while still keeping her signature punk rock sparkle. She is also working on distance commands using hand signals, proving once again that this girl is not only fun, but incredibly smart and capable.

​

While Josie’s zest for life is part of her charm, she has also shown she can settle beautifully. After playtime, she enjoys couch snuggles and TV watching, her soft snores adding a sweet harmony to the evening. She makes the most adorable “wookie” sounds during toy time and insists her humans participate in the fun.

 

Josie would thrive in a fun adventurous home with adult humans who can appreciate her exuberance and handle her strength and enthusiasm. Little kiddos tend to add to her excitement, and she does best with humans who can confidently guide her. Although not required, she wouldn’t mind a cool, easy-going male dog companion who enjoys play and can match her vibe without escalating it.

​

Medically, Josie is doing great overall. We have learned that her toes and paw pads are extra sensitive to cold and snow, so winter weather means we’re working on getting her comfortable in boots. A true rock star sometimes needs a little extra wardrobe support.

​

Josie has experienced a few plot twists in her story, but what stands out most is her resilience. Each chapter has only made her stronger, smarter, and more connected to the people guiding her. She is not “too much," she is a big personality in a world that sometimes expects dogs to be smaller versions of themselves. With structure, leadership, and continued engagement, she absolutely shines.

Josie is more than just a dog; she is joy in motion. She is laughter, wiggles, sound effects, and heart. She is a loyal bandmate waiting for someone who understands that great music takes practice, and the best partnerships are built with patience and commitment.

​

With every wag of her tail, she reminds us that life is meant to be lived loudly and lovingly.
