about KEIFER

Hello world! My name is Keifer and I’ve got quite a backstory! All I really need you to know is that I love life. I had a rough year or so before I came in to SEPR, and I was quite skinny along with my sisters, SEPR Journey and SEPR Lou Lou. The great news is that SEPR makes sure we have enough food (and all the other stuff) all the time! I don’t have to worry about if I’ll get fed again and I find that quite nice.

I, as you can imagine, love food. Only in good ways though! I don’t have any problem around other dogs or people. My foster parents were a little surprised I wasn’t more protective of my food, although they said it’d be completely understandable. I do rush to my food. When I see food waiting is hard. Foster mom and dad are working on “wait” before I eat. I already sit and look, what more do they REALLY need?!? A slow feeder bowl for me is important because otherwise I eat too fast and have issues with it coming back up. Foster mom and dad switch things up with multiple slow feeder bowls, but also things a simple as two or three tennis balls in a normal bowl slows me down enough to fully enjoy my food.

Now that I’m on track and I realize I will always have food, shelter, and love. I’m really feeling free to be my goofy self. I already know sit, lay down, kennel up, stay (but why?????), and off (again, why???). It’s been kind of weird late winter weather, so I haven’t done much on the leash yet, but I’m excited to start walking with foster family more soon. I am doing great with my refresher course in housetraining and I’d say I pretty much have it down.

I love my foster mom and dad. Actually, I love everyone I’ve met! I’m a big boy that doesn’t really know how big I am. I love laps and cuddling. I met my foster grandma not too long ago and she loved me! She’s usually more of a cat lady, but she loved how I would hunker down and snuggle with her on the couch for as long she’d let me. I’m still re-learning that it’s okay to chew on bones and toys. I will play fetch, but sometimes I don’t want to give my ball back. Once I realize you want it just to throw it, I’m all about giving it back!

I’m at the perfect age where I can run, play, and keep up with the best of them, but I also love some good relaxation time. I typically don’t bark. Occasionally the mailman scares me out of a good sleep and I give him a couple “ruffs”, but nothing too crazy. That’s just not my style.

My foster home is pretty chaotic, but this just proves I can fit into any family! I live with two 2-legged siblings and three (yes three!) 4-legged canine siblings. My 4-legged siblings are all very different, but I get along with all of them! At first, I was a little surprised at how rowdy the other dogs can get. Now I know they are just playing and having fun, and that’s okay! I look to foster mom or dad when I get worried and they tell me it’s okay. Once I hear their confirmation, I relax a bit more. I’m a lover, not a fighter. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, 2 or 4-legged.

I am interested in the outdoor cats and I’ve done well with them so far. I do get excited though, so it can be a bit much for cats initially. I’m sure after a while, we’d all realize we like to cuddle and nap and we could all get along though.

I’m excited to meet my forever family, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying my new relaxing, worry-free life with SEPR!
