about KNIGHT
Every Knight deserves a castle of his own. This one is just learning to be brave enough to find it.

Knight is a petite young terrier mix...maybe Rat Terrier, maybe a little Italian Greyhound, and probably a few other things thrown into the mix. Whatever his DNA eventually tells us, what we know for certain is that he is a dainty, soft-hearted little gentleman who is still figuring out this great big world.

We don’t know what Knight’s past was speckled with or why so many ordinary pieces of life still feel intimidating to him. Getting in and out of a car can be scary. Navigating unfamiliar places without another dog showing him the way can feel overwhelming. New sounds, new people and new expectations require a little extra time for him to process.

But timid does not mean incapable.

Knight is learning how to be brave, and every new experience he successfully navigates adds another little piece to his confidence. He doesn’t need someone to push him through the things that scare him. He needs someone patient enough to show him, consistently, that he is safe and capable of figuring them out.
His ideal home will be relatively quiet and predictable without a lot of constant commotion. A consistent schedule will help him know what comes next, and an adopter willing to continue working on confidence building will be incredibly important. Some of our fantastic training classes would also be a great way for Knight and his future family to continue building skills and strengthening that relationship together.
Another confident canine companion could be especially beneficial for Knight. He takes cues from the animals around him, and having another dog who already understands that the house, the humans and the daily routine are safe can help take some of the pressure off this little guy. Feline companions may also be a good fit.

Knight isn’t looking for the loudest castle in the kingdom. He’s looking for a safe one.

He needs someone who understands that the smallest victories may actually be the biggest ones in the beginning. Someone who will celebrate the first time he confidently hops into the car, explores somewhere unfamiliar or looks to his person instead of another dog for reassurance.

There is so much potential tucked inside this petite little gentleman. With patience, consistency, training and a family willing to help him discover just how brave he can be, we think the sky is the limit. Maybe there’s even another four-legged knight or a princess already waiting in his future castle to show him the ropes.

For now, Knight is polishing his armor one tiny piece at a time.

He just needs someone willing to stand beside him while he discovers that he had the courage all along.
More to come...
