Meet Misty, a petite Georgia girl around four years old with a huge personality, an even bigger love for people, and enough enthusiasm for life to brighten just about any forecast.

​

Misty’s story started long before she arrived at SEPR. We believe she likely survived largely on her own for quite some time in Georgia before a Good Samaritan finally stepped in to help her. She eventually made her way north with one of our weather-themed transports, which is how this little force of nature became Misty.

​

And honestly, the name still fits.

​

Misty is incredibly adaptable when it comes to what her people have planned. Want to get out of the house, hop in the car and have an adventure? She’s ready. Planning a quiet day at home with blankets, snacks and a good spot on the couch? She can absolutely get behind that too. More than anything, Misty wants to be where her people are. She loves car rides, cuddles, pets, head massages, snacks and meeting new friends, and she has never been shy about making herself part of whatever is happening.

She’s also a very smart girl who knows sit, wait, look, down and leave it. Food puzzles, wobblers and slow feeders are great outlets for her busy brain, and she is extremely food motivated, which makes training both productive and fun. She rides nicely in the car, does well in her kennel and will happily hustle inside when there’s a snack waiting for her. Baths and nail trims are tolerated for appropriate compensation, although Misty would like it noted that massages are a far superior spa service.

That big enthusiasm for life does mean Misty is still learning that she doesn’t have to participate in absolutely everything. After likely spending so much of her earlier life looking out for herself, settling and simply resting can take some practice. She can be a busybody who wants to investigate what everyone is doing and occasionally insert herself right into the middle of it. Her exuberance comes from a very social, affectionate place, but other animals don’t always appreciate quite as much Misty as Misty would like to give them. Her foster family is helping her find that balance between activity and downtime and teaching her that naps are just as important as adventures.

Misty currently lives with both large and small dogs and can do well with other animals with appropriate introductions, structure and management. She has also shown the ability to live with cats and could potentially share her home with older children. As with any placement, we’ll look at the entire household and make sure it is a good fit for everyone involved.

​

Misty does have a distinctive little wobble in her hind end, believed to be the result of being hit by a car before coming into rescue. It doesn’t dampen her spirit or her desire to participate in life, but it is something her future family will need to take seriously as she ages. We currently incorporate acupuncture into her care to support her mobility, comfort and long-term quality of life. Keeping her lean, active, strong and pain-free will remain important throughout her lifetime, and slippery surfaces and certain physical activities may require a little extra consideration. Outside of those mobility needs, Misty has been a relatively healthy girl.

Misty has already had more than one chapter in her life, including an adoption that ultimately ended with her returning to SEPR through no fault of her own. This time, we are looking for permanence. She needs someone who understands that adoption is a commitment not only to the fun, affectionate, hilarious dog she is today, but also to continuing her training, protecting her mobility and standing firmly in her corner as she grows older.

Because underneath all that Misty weather is one incredibly loving dog who has spent enough of her life wondering where she belongs.

​

Her next family needs to be the one that finally gives her the answer.
