about nikita

Hi everyone! I’m SEPR’s pint size package, Nikita. I’ve got a second chance at life and I am NOT about to waste it. I love EVERYTHING. I mean everything. Dogs, yep! People, even better! Food, the best! Warm blankets? Simply amazing. This whole rescue thing has been incredible, and I can’t wait to show off my personality to everyone I meet!

When I came in to the rescue, I had a terrible UTI along with some hair loss and I was underweight. I’ve gained weight and the vet tells me I’m just a lean girl with a fast metabolism (who doesn’t love a good compliment)! I’m excited that I can still eat lots of good treats while learning fun new commands. Almost everyone who has met me has a hard time believing I’m not a puppy. I have puppy manners, puppy etiquette and puppy rambunctiousness. I play hard and love hard. I am quite the character when I’m playing. My foster family calls me a pinball, but when I’m tired, all I really want is someone I can cuddle with. While living with my foster family, I’ve learned many basic commands like sit, stay, kennel up, off, lay down, come (I might have selective hearing though….). And, of course, when bags crinkle, I have quickly learned that something is going worth while in the kitchen 😉.

I’ve got some puppy energy, but overall, I’m a really good girl. If I get enough time outside, I am potty trained. Sometimes I get sidetracked and need to be reminded to “go potty”. I get along with other dogs that are bigger than me. Cats and small dogs are too much fun to chase and hunt. I am not about to tame myself for them! Although, my foster mom says that makes me harder to find a home, I just can’t help myself. So, I say, for everyone’s interest (because I hate being in trouble), no cats or small dogs for me.

Foster mom and dad have decided it’s my relentless playing and rough housing that makes it impossible to get great photos of me. I love to chew and have occasionally chewed on things that made foster mom go “Really Nikita?!?”. Those things included (THE BEST THING EVER) toilet paper and tissues. So, much like having a toddler around, hide the extra toilet paper, because it is FUN! If I have toys and bones to chew on, I prefer those. I only find mischief on my own when I’m bored. Which brings me to my next flex, as the kids say, I crate up like a champ! I would love to sleep with people or even other dogs, but you say, “kennel up,” and I’m on my way! I’m used to eating and sleeping in my crate, so I find that it’s a rad place. I will let you know how excited I am to greet you when you get home with a few barks, but I calm down quickly after giving you lots of love!

My foster mom works from home and gives me naps about twice a day. She’s learned that this helps keep me from finding trouble and getting too sassy. I really like to talk when I’m feeling sassy. It’s fun for a while, but foster mom doesn’t always like it. So, I take a nap and come out refreshed and ready to play and cuddle some more! Life is great. This is also great, so I’m told, for people who aren’t as lucky to spend all day with me and must go to work. I can kennel up while you are gone and it’s just like a long nap!

I am a bit sassy, and my foster mom sometimes goes as far as feisty. I love people and will bark at people that seem like a threat. I can usually tell the difference, but sometimes foster mom has to let me know that other dogs and people aren’t there to hurt us. When she does this, I calm down and end up realizing that I was overreacting about foster dad walking up with a broom. My bad. I just really love my people and really dislike brooms. Don’t let this deter you from meeting me. I love meeting new people, when they are expected or we are out and about. I do, get excited to see and meet other dogs and so I am still working on my leash manners.

I’d love to meet you and show you how cuddly and awesome I can be, if you’ll just take the time to play with and love me back!  Next time I check in, I know I’ll have more great news for all my favorite people (P.S. that’s anyone reading this!!) 😊
