about PETAL

Petal arrived from the deep South, where she spent her early life as a breeding machine. Living in an outdoor pen, she and her companion faced a relentless cycle of litters, all for the profit of her neglectful "owner." Terrified by the hot, humid Georgia sounds and sights, they often attempted to escape their prison of neglect. Unfortunately, when the burden of care became too much, they were discarded like last week's trash.

Upon her arrival at the shelter, Petal was in rough shape, suffering from infections in all her nipples and completely shut down emotionally. After a brief temporary foster stay, she was brought to South Dakota, where her healing journey continues. While Petal may be one of the healthier dogs physically, she faces significant challenges mentally, as every new experience in this big world can be overwhelming.

Trust is not something that comes easily for her; it must be earned. Her foster family is dedicated to showing her that life can be better. Currently, Petal’s world is small as they work on building her confidence, trust, and mutual respect. Healing the emotional scars can often be more daunting than addressing physical ones, but this is a commitment we take seriously.
