about PETAL

Petal is as delicate as a flower, as busy as a bee, and as charismatic as a summer breeze. After a life spent in an outdoor pen, where she was merely a breeding dog, Petal has never truly known love. She has witnessed the heartbreaking loss of countless puppies, and when her previous family could no longer care for the dogs, they discarded them as if they were trash.

Now in South Dakota, Petal's life has taken a transformative turn, and we are gently peeling back the layers to help her understand that safety and trust can be built at her own pace. She has seamlessly integrated into her foster home, coexisting well with both canine and feline companions. Although she often seeks guidance from them and occasionally engages in play, she remains wary of their intentions—especially when it comes to the mischievous black cat she suspects has a secret mission to scare her!

Currently, Petal is attending SEPR's Train-a-bull class with a dedicated volunteer, where she is developing her confidence. She knows basic commands such as sit, look, lay down, come, and kennel. After her training sessions, she enjoys retreating to her favorite quiet corner to decompress on her chair.

Petal's favorite spot is outdoors, where she feels most at ease. She delights in basking in the sun, ripping and shredding her toys, and when the breeze is just right, she loves to dash around and enjoy a good zoomie!

While she is still cautious around men—understandably so—her foster father is committed to winning her over. We know this relationship will take time, and we’re patient in allowing her to blossom.

Petal is seeking a home with a confident leader who can introduce her to new activities without overwhelming her. The presence of a dog or feline companion would be a wonderful bonus for this sweet girl!
