Everyone loves potatoes..baked, mashed, roasted. You can't go wrong with a good potato…so let’s introduce SEPR Potato!​

Sadly, Potato or Tate as he is known by his adoring fans, has spent most of his life looking for a home to call his own. Tate came from a rural shelter in Georgia, where he spent most of the first two years of his life. SEPR was welcoming several other dogs from this shelter into rescue and after seeing video after video of this charming boy and his love for his caretakers and sweet disposition, we couldn’t leave him behind.

Thankfully, Potato is not letting his past dictate his future. He has adjusted to life in a home quickly. Learning about all the luxuries and things we take for granted, like beds, couches, and other places to cuddle up for a snooze, he wastes no time getting comfortable. We will often find him rolled over on his back in a comfy spot, snoozing the day away!

Potato is also learning the workday routine making an excellent work-from-home coworker, content to sleep the day away on a dog bed or entertain himself with some toys. Plush, stuffed toys are his favorite! This guy will certainly find the squeaker in all of your stuffed toys and make sure you know how much he is enjoying each and every toy! The sheer joy he finds in playing with toys will certainly brighten anyone’s day.

During his time in rescue, Potato has been working on gaining confidence around his people. When he first arrived, he would get nervous when his people would leave him. By using a consistent routine and some specific training to address this, Potato is now able to settle much easier and understands that although he was once homeless, he is now with people who love him and will always return for him. In addition to learning the settle command, Tate also knows sit, wait, look, down, leave it, let’s go, and heel.

Potato makes it very easy for us to love him. By far, his favorite thing to do, is be right by his people, receiving pets and love. Don’t worry about getting distracted when you’re loving him though. If you forget what you’re doing, he will gently remind you by taking his paw and patting your hand, making you forget all your worries. He loves to snuggle on the couch and would make an excellent movie buddy.

When he’s not busy relaxing, Potato loves to go on adventures. He walks nicely on a leash and is well-behaved when he is out and about. Walking by other people or other dogs is no challenge for this guy. His person gets his attention and the rest of the world will have to wait. Potato is very food motivated, and if something does catch his eye when he is out and about or if his people want to teach him something new, he is easily redirected and always willing to learn for a snack.

Throughout his time at both the shelter and here in rescue, Potato has been good with other dogs and cats. He does sometimes play a little bit rough at first, but with some redirection and learning what is allowed, he has shown the potential to be an excellent doggy sibling. 

You may be wondering what breeds make up a handsome boy like Potato. Good news! We have gotten a DNA test and the results are in. In addition to 100% amazing dog, Tate’s DNA shows him to be the following breeds.

57% American Pit Bull Terrier

15% Lab

14% German Sheppard 

8% Golden Retriever 

6% Boxer

This is obviously the perfect combination to make a very sweet boy!

After a year in rescue and two years in the shelter, it is definitely time for Potato to find his forever people. This guy is really an overlooked gem waiting to be noticed and loved forever. Are you the one that can finally give our cute little spud his dream come true?
