about potato

Everyone loves potatoes..baked, mashed, roasted. You can't go wrong with a good potato…so let’s introduce SEPR Potato!

First, we want to be clear that SEPR Potato is not a blockhead type dog like most in our foster program. We are guessing maybe a hound mix, etc. Like many of the southern dogs, Potato spent most of his life in a shelter. When transport decisions were made, there was no way we would let Potato sit any longer waiting for a human savior. 2 years of being confined behind bars is no place for any dog!

Potato is adjusting to life outside the shelter quickly. Learning about all the luxuries and things we take for granted, like beds, couches, and other places to cuddle up for a snooze, he wastes no time getting comfortable rolling on his back, snoring in no time.

Potato is also learning the workday routine making an excellent work-from-home coworker content to sleep the day away on a dog bed or entertain himself with some toys. Don’t worry, though; he is also learning that just because we work from home doesn’t mean we don’t have to use a kennel. While he might protest being ‘left behind’ a bit, he is beginning to understand that his people will always come back for him.

Potato enjoys his toys like nylabones, tennis balls, and stuffed animals, tossing them in the air and playing catch with himself. He will be your not-so-little shadow following you around the house when he isn't playing with his toys. Potato is currently participating in the most recent round of Train A Bull, perfecting his commands and working on ignoring distractions from small dogs to medical equipment. Of course, he is making it look easy, catching on quickly…. It helps that he is very food-motivated.

Potato is taking integration with the resident canine slow and steady, making sure to form a solid foundation first, but he has been all wiggle butt so far. It can take a little time, just like making a baked potato, but the results are worth it! During his extended stay at the shelter, he was always very canine-friendly.

If you're looking for an all-around good "ol' boy" type of dog, Potato fits that bill. He has so much lost time to make up for and we cannot wait to see someone swoon over him as much as we do. Through so much isolation, all Potato still wants is love and adventure.

We know what kind of Potato is our favorite….what’s yours?
