about SARABI

Named after Simba's wise and loving mother from The Lion King, Sarabi wasn't standing proudly overlooking a kingdom when she was rescued. She was barely surviving.

Sarabi was found in rural Georgia living inside a horse trailer alongside what is believed to have been her puppy, Timon. Tragically, another dog believed to have been part of their little family was found deceased on a nearby road. Sarabi and Timon were in heartbreaking condition. Both were nearly hairless from severe Demodex mange, their skin covered in scabs, and they were suffering from bladder infections, intestinal parasites, hookworms, malnutrition, and starvation. Despite everything she had endured, Sarabi still found a way to trust the people trying to help her.

While we'll never know exactly what Sarabi experienced before rescue, we knew one thing for certain—she deserved so much better. For the first time in her life, she's finally receiving the care, comfort, and love every dog deserves.

Since arriving in foster care, Sarabi has made incredible progress. Her bladder infections have resolved, her parasites are being treated, she's regained much-needed weight, and she's received the vaccinations that every dog deserves. She is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, a long and difficult process that she is handling with remarkable resilience. Once her heartworm treatment is complete, she will undergo a full dental procedure. Years of neglect have left many of her teeth worn nearly to the gum line, and she will likely need several extractions to relieve her pain and improve her long-term health.

As her body has healed, Sarabi has begun discovering all of the simple joys she missed for so much of her life. Soft beds, cozy couches, delicious treats, peanut butter-filled Kongs, gentle hands, and car rides with the wind blowing through her growing coat have all become some of her favorite things.

Sarabi is a wonderfully gentle companion who simply enjoys being close to her people. Whether she's quietly following you from room to room or curled up beside you on the couch after a long day, she's happiest just being included. She settles beautifully in her crate with a peanut butter-filled Kong, rides exceptionally well in the car, and loves watching the world go by with her head out the window.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of watching Sarabi recover has been seeing her learn how to simply be a dog. Toys are becoming exciting, especially if they involve chasing a ball or enthusiastically de-fluffing a stuffed animal. Every new experience reminds us just how much she missed during the early years of her life, and watching her embrace those moments has been incredibly rewarding.

Baths and nail trims aren't at the top of Sarabi's list of favorite activities, but she tolerates both patiently, especially when treats are involved.

Because Sarabi arrived so medically fragile, formal introductions with other dogs and cats have been limited while she recovered. However, she came into rescue with Timon and has shown no concerns during brief interactions with the resident dogs in her foster home. As she continues healing, we'll learn even more about her preferences and personality.

Every week Sarabi's beautiful coat grows in a little fuller, and she looks more and more like the dog she was always meant to be. While she still has a few medical hurdles ahead, those are temporary. What lies beyond them is the life she's waited so patiently to find.

Sarabi is no longer simply surviving, she's thriving. She has fought incredibly hard for a second chance, and now she's ready to spend the rest of her life knowing what it means to be truly loved.
Her future family won't see the scars of her past. They'll see the gentle, resilient, affectionate dog who never stopped believing people could be kind. After everything she's endured, it's finally Sarabi's turn to be cherished.
