about Sonar

Sonar’s story began in Minnesota, where she was found abandoned and waiting for months in an outdoor shelter, including over the Fourth of July. For a dog who loves being in the middle of life’s excitement, that was no place for her bright little spirit.

When she arrived at SEPR, one small detail told us she had once been loved, her nails were delicately capped in pink. We were certain someone would come looking for her. No one ever did.

Despite that, Sonar has held onto her joy.

She is a small-but-mighty girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Sonar thrives on connection and wants to be part of whatever her humans are doing. She’s equally happy joining you for a car ride, strolling through the neighborhood, visiting a dog-friendly patio, or curling up on the couch at the end of the day. Wherever you are, that’s where she wants to be.

On walks, Sonar is a pro with check-ins and manners. She’s attentive, engaged, and loves working alongside her person. She recently aced her “Train-a-Bull” class, excelling in sit, look, lay down, come, sit up, and more, though she came to rescue already potty trained and knowing how to sit like a pro. Smart cookie? Absolutely.

Sonar enjoys other canines and is a social girl. She attends day camp at Dog Days for fun and appropriate socialization and does well in structured environments. In her foster home, she has shown herself to be adaptable and socially aware, preferring harmony and choosing to avoid conflict.

She can be enthusiastic when meeting new friends and may need reminders about her manners at first, but she responds beautifully to leadership and consistency. Her petite size makes her easy to guide while she continues to mature.

One of her sweetest qualities is her indifference toward cats, she has shown little interest in them and even has a few cat-like habits herself, including rubbing affectionately against her people and curling up close behind their heads on the couch.

Health-wise, Sonar does have skin allergies that are well managed with daily oral Apoquel and a grain-free diet. With this routine in place, she continues to feel comfortable and thrive.

Sonar is ready for the inside life she has always deserved, a life where she is included, valued, and loved. She doesn’t want to be overlooked. She wants to belong.

If you’re looking for a versatile, affectionate companion who is equal parts sparkle and snuggles, Sonar may be the missing piece in your home.
