about STORM

After sitting in a shelter for over a year and a half, we know this gorgeous girl has endured her fair share of turbulence and bad weather. Rescued from a rural community in Kansas, several organizations worked together to get her to SD. While her past might have been dark and rainy, we are here to ensure that her future is sunshine and bluebirds.

Storm is still unsure of her brave new world but takes it all in a little at a time. We will continue showing that her life can now be rainbows once we build confidence and trust. She is intelligent and a swift learner. With her past experience; surprisingly, she is still 100% house-trained. Storm also finds her kennel a safe place and doesn't mind being in the kennel when her humans are away.

Storm is not a food-motivated junkie but seeks reassurance from her humans in new situations. Her personality lends itself to being reserved, then adding such a lengthy stay in a shelter, she missed crucial formative learning months. Once she trusts you, she will not leave your side. A good bone or a stuffed animal is her favorite thing to do if she is not following you around the house. She is a very quiet dog. The only time she barked was when a deer came into her yard.

Her current foster home has two other dogs and two cats. Storm gets along great with the cats and dogs. She loves to steal the other dog's toys, which must be monitored and managed as not all other canine friends will approve of this behavior. It took her a little while to get to know the cats, but now she will nap on the couch with them.

Storm also lives with two kids (10 & 14 years old). She has been around kids of all ages, except newborn babies. When appropriately introduced, she has yet to meet someone she doesn't like. However, with her extreme shyness and timidness, a quiet home without loud, rambunctious humans will be necessary.

It does take Storm longer to warm up to men. Public places are still scary for her. She enjoys car rides but is nervous about getting in and out of the vehicle. We have been working on confidence-building and people-watching from parking lots. She has also been taking obedience classes from Nerdy K9 and running short errands. Storm has come a long way with going into public areas, but will never be the outgoing, brave type of girl. She is very content to be home in her safe zone with her trusted humans.

Storm's perfect home would be with a family that will love her unconditionally and accept her shy demeanor. An owner that enjoys being out in nature and including their canine with them. Storm will also need a confident canine companion in a new home. This will continue to help her build confidence and trust with humans.

This beauty is one in a million, and we know some special human will love this demure and sensitive girl that she is, quirks and all!
