What makes life sweet? That's right..Sugar! If you are looking for a best friend sweet as sugar or sometimes acts hyped up on it, Sugar is the girl for you. This sweet little girl had a very rough start, living outside with her friend SEPR Spice, they were left to fend for their selves.  Never having lived in a house before, Sugar had to learn to conquer little things like walking through doorways, going up or down the stairs.  It took her a little while, but she started to settle right in, and she is loving house living.

 

Living outside and being exposed to the elements, Sugar contracted Mycoplasma which is a blood born disease spread by ticks.  In addition to the Mycoplasma, Sugar also contracted Alaria, a parasite commonly found in frogs, snakes, and mice.  But don’t worry, Sugar has completed treatment for both and is anxiously waiting for her re-test date to come so she can get a clean bill of health.

 

Once she had a chance to settle in, we noticed a hitch in her gait so we scheduled a vet appointment.  X-rays were sent off, it was discovered that Sugar had suffered an ACL tear, and a luxating patella in the same leg.  Both conditions are quite painful, so we scheduled surgery as soon as possible.  Sugar breezed through the surgery, and is doing her best to follow the rehabilitation restrictions, but she feels better already.  She should be getting the all clear soon, and will be able to get back to full activity.

 

Sugar is one tough cookie, she hasn’t let anything slow her down.  She is loving having canine companions to romp around and play with, both big and small, she has learned to wait on her dog bed until the other dogs want to play.  Having little basic training, she’s been working very hard on her basic commands, and already has sit and look figure out and is working diligently on other commands. 

 

Once she gets fully cleared of restrictions, Sugar can start to venture out to public places and start to experience all kinds of new things.  Sugar is ready to get out there and start exploring the big world, ready for head scratches and belly rubs from every person she sees.
