about TOFFEE
Toffee - a dash of sweetness and lots of love. This bundle of tawny-colored fur, irresistibly perky ears, and pure puppy love is sure to turn heads wherever she goes. Toffee is more than a pretty girl, she is whip smart and eager to please. Do you love coffee? Toffee also loves coffee!
Toffee came to Sioux Empire Pit Rescue from a local shelter where she had spent four weeks in isolation due to kennel cough. As just a pup, isolation was devastating to her confidence. When she arrived at her foster family’s home, she was suffering from a double ear infection, urinary tract infection, and giardia. With the help of SEPR and their wonderful vet team, Toffee was quickly deemed healthy and ready to begin her search for a family all her own.
Her foster family says they have never walked a better dog on a Gentle Leader, its like walking a cloud. She knows her basic commands (Sit, look, down, wait) and graduated from SEPR’s six-week training course, Train-A-Bull. For a couple treats you could probably teach this little lady to stand on her head. Toffee is kennel trained and willingly jumps right in for a treat or other yummy distraction. The first month in her foster home, she did rip up a couple dog begs so now she has a "pittie-proof" dog bed which she adores and hasn't tried to chew. Toffee is quiet in her kennel but will sometimes whine when she sees people. With a gentle "hush" she does quiet down again. Who can blame her for whining though? She just wants to be with you and give you all the love she has!
Toffee loves to play with all the toys. She really enjoys anything she can gnaw on: nylabones, antlers, beef cheek rolls, etc. Toffee only gets stuffies under extreme supervision since she has swallowed a couple in the past. Ms. Lioness will chase a ball because her foster bro does, but the fun she gets from this is playing keep-away from him when she gets the ball before he does. Flirt pole games are her jam. This little lion cub loves giving those squeaky ropes hope of escaping her with some mild stalking and catch and release.
Toffee shares her foster home with two other dogs and two small children. This makes Toffee very versatile. She can be the annoying little sister that needs to be in the middle of whatever the children and dogs are doing or she can be the mature older sister that keeps her foster siblings and home from utter madness. When it is time to wind down, Toffee is the first to lay down and snuggle up. She loves being tucked in with blankets. Bonus points if she's tucked in under the covers in bed with her people. You'll never have to be chilly in the winter with Toffee.
Big ears are better to hear you with and also collect dust. Toffee needs easy ear maintenance to keep her hearing top-notch. A cotton ball and doggie ear cleaning solution are all you need. Toffee will stare at you dreamily while you clean her antennas. Bath time is also a breeze. Honestly, you can't find an easier dog than Toffee.
Toffee is well-mannered in her foster home. She’s very dog social and has been exposed to dogs of varying sizes. She did live with a cat for awhile which she was interested in. Proper introduction to any animal and person is necessary. She is a clumsy puppy that doesn't know her own size and forgets her manners when excited.
Toffee has only had one accident outside of her kennel and that was when she first arrived. Toffee will let you know she needs to go outside by sitting at the door and staring you down. If that's not enough, she'll use her beautiful voice to give a quick whine and sweet bark to get your attention. Toffee did have accidents in her kennel during the day due to it being larger than necessary for her size. Since giving her a smaller area to utilize in her kennel, the accidents have stopped.
Toffee needs a family who will cherish her playful spirit, challenge her with games, take her for car rides, shower her with love, and most importantly - share the coffee.
Life is sweeter with Toffee.
Reminder: puppies are like new born babies! A LOT of work and even when “raised right” we give no guarantees to who their individual personalities will develop into as adults. We are looking for families who clearly understand this and willing to “wow” us with their canine leadership and knowledge. Love will need to be guaranteed for LIFE, not just when they are small, cute, and cuddly.

**Families with children 5 years of age and under wanting to adopt puppies will be reviewed on a
case-by-case basis. Raising a puppy properly takes a lot of time, and we understand that in families with small children, time can be a limited commodity.
