about JOURNEY
Just a small town girl living in a lonely world, SEPR Journey took a midnight train to South Dakota.
Once upon a time, Journey had a family that loved her very much. Her family had rescued her from life on a chain, they took her in and gave her a safe and loving home. Journey was unaltered when her family rescued her, and an accidental litter resulted from an unintentional encounter between Journey and an unaltered male. This is how SEPR Lou Lou entered the world. Immediately following the accidental litter, Journey’s owner had her spayed to prevent any future accidents. Journey’s family also rescued a male, SEPR Kiefer, no he wasn’t born and raised in South Detroit but he was from a hoarding situation. He became Journey’s companion, and together Journey, Kiefer, and Lou Lou lived happily.
Unfortunately, life had other plans for this small family. Journey’s owner was forced to relinquish ownership of all 3 dogs when she had to unexpectedly care for her own mother with an ailing health condition. The shelter they were relinquished to, like most shelters across the country, was under funded and under staffed. Journey waited over a year for a foster spot to open up. During that time her body condition began to deteriorate drastically, she had dwindled to a skeleton covered in pressure sores and urine stains.
We wasted no time getting Journey into the vet as soon as she arrived, where we learned she had lost at least 20 lbs during her time at the shelter either from lack of nutrition or improper nutrition, she has also been exposed to Giardia. Now in her senior years, it was absolutely heartbreaking to see her in such terrible condition. We started a proper feeding schedule, and treated her for giardia exposure, and are happy to report that she is giardia free and back to a healthy body condition.
Now that she is healthy, she can begin to enjoy her golden years. She loves going for walks around the neighborhood walking nicely on her gentle leader, taking trips to Fleet Farm and getting to sniff all the fun smells there. But her most favorite thing is fetch, she absolutely loves to play fetch in the yard… and we absolutely love watching her ears flop as she chases the ball around! She also enjoys chewing on nylabones, an occasional exceptionally good stick in the yard, and the kong wobbler. Journey is crate trained and is a perfect angel in her crate. She often uses her crate as her safe place, going to sit in it when she’s worried or sometimes just to chew on a bone in there.
Journey is integrated with the resident canines in her foster home, she loves the companionship of the social dog and can often be found snuggling together, but she also respects the space of the selective dog. Journey would benefit from a calm canine companion to spend her golden years with.
Journey is friends to every human she meets, big… small… young… old… teenagers… to the 94 year old neighbor… she loves them all. If she feels like she isn’t getting enough love and attention form you she will wrap her paw around you to let you know she requires more. After everything this girl has been through, she holds no ill will towards humans, she just wants to be loved.
Journey continues to expand her world with new experiences, and adding commands to her list. We are 100% certain that she will be an amazing member of anyone’s family, someone will be very lucky to adopt this girl.
Journey never stopped belivin that she’d get out of the shelter someday, and we will never stop belivin that her forever family is out there.
